Our History
Founded in 1970 by Robert E. Whitaker Sr., today Whitaker Corporation comprises its publishing division, Whitaker House, and sister company, Anchor Distributors, as well as a suite of imprints, fulfillment and publishing partners, and resources for buyers and booksellers: Whitaker Espanol, ShopTheWord, Word Alive, AnchorUP, and the newly acquired ministry Million Praying Moms.
Now a well-established publisher of contemporary and classic Christian literature, Whitaker House began nearly by accident. In the 1960s, as a former electrical sales representative, Robert Whitaker Sr. was profoundly healed, both physically and spiritually. Inspired by this transformation, he was compelled to share his faith with others and started by giving away copies of David Wilkerson's classic, The Cross and the Switchblade.

"God led me to literally give books away—by the hundreds—as a ministry to help others find the joy and peace I'd found"
- Robert Whitaker Sr., 2010
(40th anniversary)
Collecting and distributing large quantities of books in his garage, Robert was approached by friend and colleague Russ Bixler. Russ was CEO of Cornerstone Television and a member of the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship International where Whitaker Sr. served as chapter president. Bixler asked Whitaker about printing and distributing his book It Can Happen to Anybody, a title that all but prophesied the future of what Whitaker Corp would become.
After back-to-back appearances on the 700 Club and Cornerstone TV, the visibility led to an influx of interest of new authors and distribution opportunities. Together with his sons Robert Jr. and John, he grew the fledgling company into one of the Christian industry's premier publishing houses. Once a modest endeavor, the corporation now maintains a more than 135,000-square-foot warehouse and distributes over 25,000 products annually from its headquarters outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Present Day Leadership
Now under the third-generation leadership of Publisher Christine Whitaker, with Robert Jr. still at the helm as President of Whitaker Corporation, Whitaker House is positioned to celebrate 55 years of global influence, continuing the original inspired mission, advancing God's kingdom by publishing biblically focused authors who proclaim the power of the gospel and minister to the spiritual needs of people around the world.
